I have just recently become a gold member of Hilton HHonors.
I am pretty new to this and would like to have some advice.
In just a couple of days I will be going to London and the Hilton Metropole hotel.
I have booked just a standard room because I thought a free upgrade would be very likely.
However, now I can see that hotel is pretty heavily booked.
I actually don't really want to stay in the standard room which I have booked, which may be a little mistake on my part.
What should I do now? Email or call them now in advance and ask for an upgrade? Pay for an upgrade through the website, which is still possible, but costs pretty much extra. (I already paid pretty much for the room as I will be staying for a bit longer period)
Or just hope for a free upgrade when I arrive?
Is it normally better to pay for an upgrade when you're at check in, or to do that in advance through the website?
