I usually don't have a problem getting upgraded to suites as HH Gold, but have an upcoming stay and really would like a particular 1BR Suite upgrade. I was thinking of booking the suite with a dummy account on a rate that has a 6pm same day cancellation policy and then cancelling it upon arrival -- essentially opening up that room.
I realize hotels oversell rooms but I would think this still gives me a better chance for this upgrade, esp if there aren't many of these specific room types.
Has anyone done this before? Any possible implications/flaws, aside from slightly straying from one's moral compass :p?
