Odd Pricing at an Expensive Hampton Inn

I have a job coming up that will require four consecutive nights is a location with expensive hotels (not NYC). I priced the local Hampton that afternoon, $139 per night. I had to get on the road and when I got to my destination the price was $159. OK, snooze and lose as they say.

I started running different combinations of nights. Monday was $179. Thursday was $179. Tuesday and Wednesday were sold out with Diamond force only. But all four nights was $159 each. Kind of seems like a bargain now.

So, I check the Hyatt Place next door. $139 a night. But, I accidentally entered Monday to FRIDAY instead of Thursday. When I corrected it, it went to $179 per night. Any time I included Friday, the price went down. Thursday-Friday, $149. Wed-Fri, $159. Friday only, $99. I thought about making a Monday-Friday at the $139 rate and just saying I would not need the Friday on check in. This seemed dishonest, so I did not.

Back to the right chain for this thread. I know there have been a lot of posts about crazy pricing, but this is the oddest I've seen. If Tue-Wed were only available by Diamond force, why did the hotel show availability? And why did they offer a discount at all?

Bottom line, I'll take it. The local HGI, Hilton and ES were all well north of $200. Oh well, at least I got my rental car for the week at $128 all in. I could sleep in the car. :p
