I typically stay at SPG hotels with my Gold status, but thought I'd give Hilton a try with some upcoming trips. I could have signed up for the Carlson Wagonlit 4 stay til Gold promo, but took the allure of the "instant" Gold using the Visa Infinite promo, for which I did not truly qualify. That was a mistake.
A few days ago (as some of you know) Hilton bumped everyone back down to Blue who signed up through the Visa Infinite promotion. When I called to explain I chose the VISA promo over the 4 stays til Gold they basically told me to pound sand and they would not do retroactive stay credits for my 4 stays this past month.
I can chalk it up to a life lesson about earning something vs taking something, but it surprised that Hilton basically told me they were not interested in keeping my business over SPG. When I have interacted with SPG in the past they bend over backwards to accommodate paying guests. Does Hilton just not care about my business or am I labeled a "bad customer" due to the promo I used?
