Shared HHonors Account - Staying in different hotels on the same date

My wife and I share a HHonors account. I will be in Boston staying at Hilton hotels using points. On the same travel dates, she will be traveling in ND and paying for Hilton Hotel rooms. Will she be earning Hilton points, while at the same time that I am "spending" the Hilton points in a different state?

I believe that you can not earn points if you stay/pay at different hotels on the same date.
