So right now I was on the phone with the Hilton web sales dept trying to fix an upcoming award reservation at the Hilton Budapest (points deducted, showing in reservation list, but getting "reservation selected cannot be managed online" errors). While working my way through to an agent, the automated system pulled up my reservation and spoke back the details. In doing so, it quoted a rate of 22 Euro/night (this was a 30,000-40,000 point/night redemption). Wondering if this was some sort of additional charge (I don't have a lot of experience with Europe reservations, and they all seem to carry this sort of intimidating language about how the property has the right to charge you whatever "local fees" or such it wants to, without telling you beforehand), I brought it up to the agent once connected. She had no idea what I was talking about and could not see this.
Anyone have any experience/ideas with this? Some sort of additional charge, or perhaps a window into how Hilton compensates properties or values Hhonors points? (I doubt it's the latter though as 22 EUR/night would be extremely low). Just curious.
