Offered an e-upgrade when booking online how likely to get?

any tips? do i call a couple days ahead of reservation, etc.?

we are staying for a bieber concert as treat to my daughters and it's a substantial upgrade for $45 if available at time of check in

never received an estandby-upgrade offer. As soon as i submitted the ressie it came up.
