Using Hilton Points

i have a bunch of hilton points and tried to use them for the first time in Japan, Osaka and tokyo and all hotels do not have recemption available. I've read about people using them in the Maldives for the Conrad etc.. why am I having so much difficulty finding a few nights in Japan? Is there a secret to usig them? I'm trying to book for MArch. Maybe I need to book a year out? I've tried using flexible dates and i still don't see any available.

I almost never have a problem with using SPG points for a full redemption. Help!!!!
