I did the numbers folks. And here they are:
After today. Earning pace at top level:
Hhonors: 15 points a dollar (points plus points). Diamond 50% bonus
Hyatt: 5 points a dollar, Diamond 30% bonus
Starwood: 2 points a dollar, Platinum 50% bonus
Marriott: 10 points a dollar, Platinum 50% bonus
So $100 dollars equals:
2000 Hhonors points
650 Hyatt points
300 SPG points
1500 Marriott points
Cheapest free night:
Hhonnors: $250 dollars spend
Marriott: $500 dollars spend
SPG: $667 dollars spend (weekend) or $1000 (weekday)
Hyatt: $770 dollars spend
Average free night:
Hhonnors: $1500 dollars spend
Marriott: $1667 dollars spend
Hyatt: $2300 dollars spend
SPG: $3333 dollars spend
And I do understand that a lot of people might be upset (esp. if they expect high level properties to go to a quarter of what Hyatt and SPG properties go) but the reality is that hhonors is still tops on both accumulation and redemption.
All those are averages (and for top level earners) and YMMV based on where you are based and your travel preferences
Just wanted to set the record straight with real numbers...
Plus add the number of available properties to redeem and it is a no-brainer...
